On my commute to work this morning, I was followed by a very aggressive driver. In fact, her self-centered forcefulness as she zipped in and out of traffic, nearly clipping the front of my car with hers, put us both in a dangerous position. We oftentimes display this behavior in our relationships with others.
Selfish aggression is dangerous and destructive. So, what if we were to use aggression in a more dangerous way—one that threatened the status quo? What if we were aggressively generous? Aggressively compassionate? Aggressively forgiving? Aggressively involved? What would that look like? And how would that change our propensity for negative aggression?
Don’t move so recklessly and angrily to get to where you want to go, disregarding those around you. Instead, use your energy to help others safely get to where could be.
